Aishwarya Lekshmi is an Indian actress and producer who primarily works in Malayalam and Tamil cinema. Born on 6 September 1991 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, she has established herself as one of the leading performers of her generation through critically acclaimed roles and commercial successes across South Indian film industries.

Early Life and Education

Aishwarya Lekshmi was born and raised in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. She completed her schooling at Holy Angel’s Convent in Thiruvananthapuram and Sacred Heart Convent Girls Higher Secondary School in Angamaly. She later pursued medical studies and earned her MBBS degree from Sree Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences in Ernakulam in 2017, completing her internship at the same institution. Before entering films she worked as a model from 2014, appearing on magazine covers and in brand campaigns for jewellery and lifestyle labels.

Acting Debut and Breakthrough

Aishwarya Lekshmi made her acting debut in the 2017 Malayalam family drama Njandukalude Nattil Oridavela opposite Nivin Pauly. Her performance earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South. The same year she delivered a breakthrough role in Mayaanadhi, directed by Aashiq Abu, playing an aspiring actress. The film brought her widespread critical praise and further awards recognition.

Rise in Malayalam and Tamil Cinema

She followed her early success with the thriller Varathan (2018) opposite Fahadh Faasil, which strengthened her reputation for intense performances. Subsequent Malayalam films include Vijay Superum Pournamiyum (2019), Brother’s Day (2019), Kaanekkaane (2021), Archana 31 Not Out (2022), Kumari (2022) and Hello Mummy (2024).

In Tamil cinema she debuted with Action (2019) opposite Vishal and later appeared in Jagame Thandhiram (2021). Her most high-profile Tamil roles came in Mani Ratnam’s epic two-part adaptation Ponniyin Selvan: I (2022) and Ponniyin Selvan: II (2023), in which she played the character Poonguzhali. Other notable Tamil films include Gatta Kusthi (2022), Captain (2022) and Maaman (2025). She also made her Telugu debut with Ammu (2022) and appeared in Godse (2022).

Awards and Recognition

Aishwarya Lekshmi has received one Filmfare Award South, one Tamil Nadu State Film Award, one Kerala Film Critics Association Award and three SIIMA Awards. She was also featured in Forbes India’s “Showstoppers – India’s Top 50 Outperformers” list in 2022. In addition to acting she has taken on producing responsibilities, including a credit on the Tamil film Gargi (2022).

Recent and Upcoming Projects

Her recent work includes the Malayalam film Hello Mummy (2024) and the Tamil film Maaman (2025). She has also appeared in Thug Life (2025) and has projects such as Gatta Kusthi 2 and others in various stages of production. She continues to balance roles across Malayalam, Tamil and Telugu cinema.
